However, there are some complications. The first is the rather weird and wonderful objects on Sir Alan’s list. These include eight kilos of jellied eels, a pair of china dogs, a new Indian rug, a signed photograph of Frank Lampard, a collection of second-hand books, some old shoes and boots and a (plastic) human skeleton. There’s even a commode, or a “toilet chair” as Debra calls it, which I can’t say is a phrase I’ve ever heard before.
These items may sound bizarre, but, as Sir Alan hints at the start of the task, some of them are more valuable than they might appear. One of the second-hand books, for example, is a first edition of a James Bond novel, Ian Fleming’s Octopussy. And among the tatty old shoes there is a pair of vintage ones worth more than £100.
